Digital Nomad’s Guide to Phuket: Coworking Spaces & Work-friendly Spots

Digital nomading ’round the world is indeed an enviable affair, but it’s not so fun when you’ve have got a tight deadline to meet – but yet have to find a reliable work-friendly spot before you can get to work. We understand your pain, and have gone round prowling for places where individuals can hack away at their projects with minimal interruptions. Here’s our list for nomads in Phuket:

Hatch

We’ve been told that Hatch is one of the best coworking spaces on the island. Bright and well-appointed, the workspace features several shared working tables, a low coffee table and three meeting rooms. The Hipster meeting room seats about six, the Hacker room accommodates ten and the Hustler fits up to forty people. At 150 THB for five hours (inclusive of coffee and snacks), Hatch offers a good deal for digital nomads in search of a conducive work space to hack away at their projects.

Stash Phuket

Coworking, co-living and co-friending – Stash is a place where you’ll find them all. Apart from coworking amenities, like a work space, unlimited internet, stationery, printer and a “free stroking cat”, Stash also provides nomads with hostel facilities. Both shared and private rooms are available on site. If you’re in Phuket, it may be best to pop by Stash for a look, as the coworking space has moved to a new spot, and the pictures on the site may not be representative of the workspace.

Nerd Bucket

If you’ve been prowling the streets of Cherngtalay for a reliable work spot, here’s a piece of good news – a new coworking space is set to launch sometime in late March till early April 2016.

Here’s what to expect: there’ll be six to eight private workstations, drinks, bathroom amenities and a full time staff to assist with enquiries or any possible issues. If you need a room for a private meeting, the entire work space may be rented in blocks – complete with a conference table and white board. Do note that these arrangements must be made well in advance, so as not to interrupt the work schedules of other members on site. Nerd Bucket will be operating late into the night too, to cater to digital nomads who thrive well as night owls.

Apart from work amenities, members can also participate in a slew of intriguing events. Plans are in the works for classes on SEO and marketing, photography workshops (the owner, Chris, is a professional photographer and videographer), pitch nights, company launches and talks from fellow digital nomads. One thing’s for sure – digital nomads can look forward to having an enriching and exciting time here!

Note: Spaces are filling up fast, so get in touch with Nerd Bucket soon if you’d like to snag a spot!

Phuket Coworking

Originally located along 200 Prabaramee Road, Phuket Coworking underwent renovations late last year and moved to a different location in Patong. It is slated to launch in Janaury 2016. If the new coworking space is to be run in a similar fashion, digital nomads may expect a variety of memberships (daily, monthly, part time and full time), as well as private desk and office workspaces.

Coboat

Digital nomading is a journey itself – within the span of a few months, you could have been working and living in a handful of exotic destinations of your choice. But what if you want to enjoy the perks of constant travel, without have to deal with the hassle and logistics that it presents? What if you could have your room, board and a group of like-minded friends move along with you during your sojourns?

Here’s where Coboat comes into play. As its name suggests, this is one coworking space which offers accommodation and office areas on a boat – a spacious catamaran, to be exact. It provides accommodation for four crew members, shared convertible twin or double bunk cabins for up to twenty Coboat participants, as well as lounge and office areas.

Set to launch during spring of 2016, Coboat has plans for cruising around Southeast Asia this year. Countries on its roadmap include Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. We’ve had news last year that Phuket is part of the plan, so keep your eyes peeled for updates from the Coboat team.

Work-friendly Cafes in Phuket

If you’re a nomad who likes cafe hopping, or are seeking a change of environment from your usual work space, here’s where you can head to fuel up on coffee while you get your work done:

Coffee Brick

Cosy surroundings, free Wi-Fi, good coffees (some say it’s the best you’ll find in Chalong) and tasty meals -what’s not to love about Coffee Brick? This well-loved cafe draws a sizable crowd during meal times, so it may be best to head here during non-peak hours. It may not be the best place to head to if you’ve got plans for a lengthy work session, but it serves well as a comfy spot to catch up on your emails or reading.

Location: 19/10 Moo 7, Tambon Chalong, Amphoe Muang Phuket, Phuket, Thailand

Gallery Cafe by Pinky

Can’t start your day without a tasty breakfast? Make Gallery Cafe by Pinky your to-go place in the mornings. With a menu that lists breakfast treats like the English Breakfast set, Eggs Benedict and chicken and blue cheese sandwich, you’ll have plenty to choose from to fill up your tummy. The cafe can get quite busy, so it may not be the best spot to stay for a long work session. Don’t forget your headphones too – it’ll come in handy for blocking out the lively buzz when the crowds come in.

S 5  Residence & Cafe

S5 Residence Cafe is a recommended spot if you’re looking for a work-worthy place along Chalong. As its name suggest, S5 offers both accommodation and a cafe, in addition to a restaurant and shared lounge. An excellent choice for digital nomads stopping by in Phuket for a short stay, and want a place that has it all.

Coffee Club

The air conditioned settings, reliable Wi-Fi and variety of drinks, all-day breakfasts and bites makes Coffee Club a convenient spot to work away an hour or two. You’ll find outlets at Jungceylon (Patong) and The Turtle Village (Mai Khao).

Andaman Coffee

Similar to Coffee Club, Andaman Coffee offers a comfortable setting and a decent selection of food and drinks. There are three branches in total; two are located at Karon Road, while the third is situated along Kata Road.

Locations: 16 Kata Road, Karon, Muang, Phuket 83100 | 23/8 Karon Road, Karon, Muang, Phuket 83100 | 210/4 Karon Road, Karon, Muang, Phuket 83100

Sandwich Shoppe

Sandwich Shoppe offers bright interiors, an air conditioned setting, free Wi-Fi and plenty of power plugs – all the essentials that digital nomads will need to work away uninterrupted. If you’re hungry for a bite, the kitchen churns out plenty of tasty fare, ranging from crisp salads and toasty sandwiches, to aromatic coffees and fresh juices. Just in case you have trouble locating the cafe, it’s located right in front of Patong Language School.

Nomads have alerted us of possible Wi-Fi issues cropping up at Sandwich Shoppe on certain days, so if you’re rushing an urgent project, it may be best to ring up the folks at the cafe, or drop them a message on their Facebook page to check up on the Wi-Fi status before heading over.
